Abstract: Recurrent stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among stroke survivors. With improved survival after first ischemic stroke, stroke recurrence may account for a greater share of the future annual cost of stroke-related health care. Despite advances in stroke prevention strategies and treatments, stroke recurrence is still the major threat to any stroke survivor. This review discusses antithrombotic therapy in secondary stroke prevention which has a major impact in clinical practice.
