The Role of the Nurse in Family Coping after Miscarriage

Year: 2014
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: When a miscarriage occurs, it affects the entire family unit, making coping an important part of healing during this time. After miscarriage, women are at increased risk for developing mental disorders such as anxiety and depression. Miscarriage is seldom seen as a concern for the father of the lost child, and thus their feelings are often ignored. It is important for the nurse to know how to best help these men, women, and the rest of the involved family cope after miscarriage so they can move on in a healthy way. The following is a review of the literature to determine effective interventions nurses can use to help families to cope and reduce stress and anxiety after miscarriage.
