Abstract: Overlooked Evaluative Skills in the Interpretation of Reasoning in Critical Thinking Courses and TextbooksI will describe some recurring pedagogical weaknesses in critical thinking textbooks and courses.First, we typically o verlook that the effective and efficient interpre ta tion of most argume nts requires the correct application of evaluative skills, and as a result we usually te ach eva luative skill s later than we should.Secondly, one of the most common serious pedagogical mistakes consists of teachin g skill s, standards, and concepts in a way that contributes to students' fragmented learning.I will suggest ways of addressing these difficulties and others.
