Abstract: The treatment of Indochina in the postwar period is a vital part of the effort to create a new ideological consensus in America, one that will preserve the possibility of counter-revolutionary interventions when and where they become necessary. The fundamental institutions which gave rise to the Vietnam war have hardly changed. What has changed is the credibility of the imperialist ideology which justified that war.
