Abstract: All most machiyas in Japan have the gabled roof, the small rower roof and the wooden lattice. So. It is difficult to find the locality on the façade design. In this study, we tried to abstract the standard for the townscape on the machiya's façade in the historical district by the database. We collected data from the surveyed machiya, and analyze to frame, tie silhouette, the part and the element. On frame, the wide frontage machiya has the height of the roof and on the silhouette, the machiya on the corner concern for the vista.
