Abstract: This paper presents some findings from an ongoing doctoral research project investigating the adoption of Information Technology (IT) within Indonesian small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The aim of this research is to compare the actual factors influencing Indonesian SME managers in IT adoption decisions with those factors suggested in the literature, which is drawn mainly from research in developed countries. An initial model of factors affecting managers ' decisions regarding the adoption of IT was developed from the literature. This model includes external and internal factors and was used to develop semi-structured interviews with 35 managers of Indonesian SMEs in the area of furniture and handicraft. Factors influencing Indonesian SME managers in IT adoption decisions were extracted from the interviews and compared to the literature.
