Abstract: The Instituto de Investigaciones en Salud of the University of Costa Rica has contributed to the promotion of human health through scientific research, teaching and social action since 1974, when the creation of an institute for research on human health was proposed by recommendation of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICIT).
