Corrigendum: A Genetic System for Methanocaldococcus jannaschii: An Evolutionary Deeply Rooted Hyperthermophilic Methanarchaeon

Abstract: The original manuscript contains a citation error which leads to an improper identification of an important tool used in the study. The incorrect citation (Balch and Wolfe 1976) needs to be replaced with the correct one (Balch et al. 1979). The following are the pertinent details of the error and the correction.The subsection of "Media and Growth Conditions" under the Materials And Methods section, states the following: "After inoculation with M. jannaschii cells either from a liquid culture or a colony, the plates were placed inside a 2 L steel anaerobic canister (Balch and Wolfe, 1976) and a layer of sterile paper towels was placed on the top of the stack of plates."While the description in this sentence is correct, the citation is not. The correct citation would the following (Balch et al. 1979):Balch, W. E., Fox, G.E., Magrum, L.J., Woese, C.R. and Wolfe, R. S. (1979). Methanogens: reevaluation of a unique biological group. Microbiol Rev. 43, 260-296.The 2 L steel anaerobic canister used in our study was a modified version of a pressure cylinder described in Fig. 5 of the above-mentioned publication (Balch et al. 1979). The length of the modified unit was 17.5 cm.
