Abstract: The 1999 International Symposium Visigodos y Omeyas: Un debate entre la Tardoantigüendad y la Alta Edad Media held at Merida, whose proceedings were published in the No. 23 of the AEspA in 2000, paved the way for later scientific meetings and publications on this interesting period of history. The symposium triggered a still-continuing debate that appeals to European historians interested either in archaeology or in documents.Ceramics, sculpture, and architecture have been the object of analysis during the subsequent meetings, but always focusing on the period between Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. The volume we are reviewing contains the contributions presented at the 2008 meeting held at Merida. The topic was territorial analysis: forms of human settlement, changes in the forms of resource utilization, definition of spaces of agricultural production and livestock farming, or spatial organization around cities such as Toledo. In all these cases the starting point is the same: the archaeological data obtained either from excavations in extension, isolated interventions or prospections, while not neglecting the input of written sources.
