Message of gratitude from the editors to our ad hoc reviewers

Year: 1998
Type: editorial
Abstract: This message of thanks to Neurology's outside reviewers appeared in the December 1997 issue (volume 49, no. 6) without appropriate identification on the cover. It is republished here to ensure that the invaluable contribution of our ad hoc reviewers is fully acknowledged. Neurology receives over 200 new manuscripts a month. More than 95% of these manuscripts are sent out for review. Our Editorial Board members review over 30% of submitted papers and assist the Editors in difficult decisions on many more. All full-length articles and the majority of Brief Communications and Clinical/Scientific Notes are sent to two referees. Most of the papers that we ultimately accept require re-review by the initial reviewers after the manuscript has been revised. Our ad hoc reviewers review the majority of our manuscripts. These neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuropathologists, and other clinical neuroscientists do their work carefully, thoughtfully, and quickly. The quality of the Journal depends upon the generosity of our reviewers. In the past 3 months, we have begun to seek the expertise of referees from countries other than the United States and Canada. These new reviewers also have been extremely helpful. Reviewers do their work anonymously, with their primary reward being their contribution to the quality of the scientific literature in our field. We list them here to thank them for their work over the past year (October 1, 1996 to September 30, 1997). Those who have reviewed five or more manuscripts are asterisked; those who have reviewed 10 or more are double-asterisked. AD HOC REVIEWERS
