Abstract: Vol. 270, p. 12614 We inadvertently failed to cite the work of Carroll et al.(1.Carroll J.M. Albers K.M. Garlick J.A. Harrington R. Taichman L.B. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U. S. A. 1993; 90: 10270-10274Crossref PubMed Scopus (132) Google Scholar) which shows that the human involucrin promoter upstream regulatory region, fused to SV40 sequences, can drive tissue-specific transcription of a β-galactosidase gene in transgenic mice. Our work (2.Crish J.F. Howard J.M. Zaim T.M. Murthy S. Eckert R.L. Differentiation. 1993; 53: 191-200Crossref PubMed Scopus (76) Google Scholar) shows that a 6-kilobase segment of the gene, including the structural protein, targets expression to epidermis. These results are fully consistent with the important regulatory elements being localized upstream of the transcription start site.
