Abstract: Projection techniques use a participant's responses to semi-structured stimuli to infer aspects of that participant's personality. Despite being the subject of some controversy, projection tests are thought to offer some specific benefits over self-report measures. Projection techniques can be applied in an idiographic or nomothetic fashion. Researchers have reported success in applying word-related and figure-construction projection techniques nomothetically to various domains, including personality and clinical psychology.
