Abstract: In our recent review article, "Relationship Assessment in Infant Mental Health" To illustrate the relationship specificity of infant attachment, we stated that these investigators found that mothers' attachment classifications, measured prenatally with the Adult Attachment Interview, predicted Strange Situation classifications to mothers but not to fathers one year later. We also said that fathers' attachment classifications predicted infant Strange Situation classifications to fathers but not to mothers. We were correct that in this study mothers' attachment classifications measured in pregnancy predicted mother -infant Strange Situation classifications at 12 months, and fathers' attachment classifications measured in pregnancy predicted father -infant Strange Situation classifications at 18 months. Nevertheless, what these investigators actually found was a modest but significant association between mother -infant and father -infant Strange Situation classifications, possibly accounted for by mothers' prenatal attachment classifications being associated with father -infant Strange Situation classifications. We regret this error.
