Abstract: The objective of this article is to discuss the notion of care, from a political dimension (Faur, 2014) in the context of punitive confinement.The analysis pre-sented of interviews with different actors in jail, prison unit N°33, with mothers and their children in Los Hornos in the province of Buenos Aires.The exercise of care in the case of women in prison, serving a double function, on the one hand the (Gentile & Tabbush, 2013) infor-mal control of the patriarchal system that assigns com-pulsorily exercise thereof by women, even in for women detained mothers. On the other hand, depending on the characteristics of increased prisonization women for crimes of drug possession, it is investigated of these in the illegal economy, and attempts to establish some re-flections on the mentioned crime and the possibility of reconciling survival strategies economic and care.
