Abstract: As long as there have been couples, people have wondered how their own relationships compare with those of others. Since you can read about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie elsewhere, this article will restrict itself to something far more interesting – the relationship between the Pea Aphid (Fig. 1), Acyrthosiphon pisum, and its bacterial symbiont, Buchneria aphidicola. This is a partnership for life and beyond, an obligate mutualistic association that may offer interesting ideas on how we can spice up our own relationships with our microbiota.
