Abstract: Thailand had a complicated year in 2021. The coronavirus pandemic, which seemed to be under control in 2020, ended up affecting all aspects of Thai life. Prayuth Chano- cha's government has had to tackle the public health challenges caused by the pandemic and the ensuing political crisis, a student movement seeking social and political reform, tensions between its regional partners in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and the U.S.-China trade war.
