Abstract: Su et al (Cell 2022;185:881-95.e20; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cell.2022.01.014) clarified the underpinnings of post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) through extensive multi-omic analyses of a longitudinal cohort of over 300 subjects. PASC was associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus, autoantibody levels, latent reactivation of Epstein-Barr virus, and degree of SARS-CoV-2 viremia at the time of initial infection. Interestingly, even subclinical baseline autoantibody production was found to significantly reduce anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody production.
