Abstract: Scientific writing is an essential skill for researchers. Scientific writing develops critical thinking, connects scientists’ results to global understanding, and identifies appropriate next questions to explore. However, there are several barriers to publishing: a lack of focus in framing the research question, difficulty in explaining why the study is important, inexperience in interpreting data and drawing out its implications, unfamiliarity with the requirements of scientific writing formats, and a lack of clarity and conciseness in the use of English language. The pathway to publishing describes a step-by-step process for early career researchers to progressively develop their scientific ideas into research projects and manuscripts that can be published in the international peer-reviewed literature.
