Abstract: This paper looks to compare the use of sunlight by Impressionist writer Katherine Mansfield and painter Claude Monet. Throughout the course of the paper, sunlight, or nature, by extension, has been seen as an agent of change or at least discontinuation. However, this use of nature, by both artists, is colored and conditioned by their emotions and therefore, also distinguishes them from their peers. Both artists use sunlight to break conventions and are prompted to do so by their personal experiences.
