Abstract: Since the lubricant ejected from the oil-air lubrication system contains a large number of air bubbles. So the viscosity properties of the lubricant are changed, which in turn affects the heat generation of the ball bearing. In this paper, Fluent simulation and theoretical study were used to ascertain the formation of air bubble oil (AB-oil) in pipeline, and the void fraction of AB-oil was determined by image analysis. Theoretical analysis and experiment show that the key influencing factor of AB-oil formation is the velocity difference between air and lubricant, and the void fraction of AB-oil was affected by pipeline length, viscosity, air pressure and oil feeding. Meanwhile, the viscosity properties of AB-oil were tested by using a rheometer. The research found that AB-oil exhibits different viscosity properties at different shear rates, and then the relationships between the void fraction and viscosity at different shear rates were attained by fitting the experimental data. Based on the numerical relationship between the void fraction and viscosity, the heat generation calculation model of ball bearings was established and verified by self-made bearing testing machine.
