Type: article
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to document and share our approach to adapting an adults' arts engagement and wellbeing program (Culture Dose) for young people with mild anxiety. The Culture Dose for Kids (CDK) program builds upon the knowledge and experience of arts and health practitioners at the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) and researchers in mental health at Black Dog Institute (BDI) in Sydney. We believe this project is the first of its kind in Australia and it commenced in May 2022. The arts, wellbeing and mental healthThere is growing momentum to understand the value of the arts in mental health and wellbeing.Participation in, or exposure to, the arts can promote wellbeing by helping to build resilience, aid recovery and foster social connections (Fancourt & Finn, 2019).Most of the literature and research has focused on reducing anxiety and promoting social inclusion and wellbeing for adults through the arts (Binnie, 2010;Boydell, 2020;Irwin et al., 2022).There is little research on the wellbeing impact of arts engagement programs for young people and children (Hayes et al., 2020;Zarobe & Bungay, 2017).
