Abstract: The creation of a National Park is a complex process, involving different instances and multiple interests. Understanding the process of territorial delimitation and the creation of the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, in 1961, is the focus of this article. The research deals with a theme still little explored by Brazilian environmental history: the history of national parks. The researchis based mainly on primary sources from the period 1858 to 1961, unexplored or little explored, about the socioeconomic and political processes involved in the creation of the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. The conclusion of the article indicates a certain permeability to the arguments related to the creation of national parks when the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park was established, but a structure that was still very incipient for its implementation.
