Abstract: A review of the bioinorganic chemistry of hydrogen sulfide and its anion, HS − , with transition metal elements. Topics covered include the preparation, structure, and roles of transition metal H 2 S/HS − complexes in biology as well as attempts to synthetically model these systems. The chapter is divided into four principal sections covering the coordination chemistry of H 2 S with heme sites, nonheme iron, other biological metal ions, and the use of transition metals in sulfide sensing.
