Implementation Model for Digital Retrofit for Sustainable Production

Abstract: Sustainable production systems are an important factor that contributes to the desired reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and resource efficiency for the industrial sector. Especially the digitalization of legacy factory equipment using a digital retrofit constitutes a major building block for this goal. In this paper the authors will explain the contribution of digital retrofit towards different use cases and objectives regarding resource efficiency. We will discuss the challenges for the practical implementation of a digital retrofit project. As a solution we will present a new implementation model approach based on standard KPIs and basic data models to tackle these obstacles and to guarantee a successful realization of digital retrofit in practice.
