Abstract: This paper describes the experiences of an academic internship at the Museum Unit of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). Besides the critical reflection on the internship activities accomplished at the exhibition programme, particular consideration was given to the museological model assumed by the Museum Unit and its consolidation as a university museum and a service to the FEUP community. This analysis is based on a study on university museums, carried out within the scope of the Masters in Museology at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, centred on questions concerning the functions, challenges and contexts specific to such institutions. The contribution underlines the importance of the academic internship in the training of future museologists
