Abstract: Calciphylaxis results from cutaneous ischemia and necrosis that is secondary to calcification, and subsequent thrombosis of arterioles and capillaries in the dermis and subcutaneous adipose tissue. Typically, patients are adults in the fifth decade of life, often with advanced chronic kidney or end-stage renal disease.1,2 Other risk factors include hypercalcemia, diabetes, obesity, and warfarin use.1,3-5 We present the rare case of a 14-year-old boy who developed calciphylaxis in the setting of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) and subsequent renal failure.
