Abstract: Arguing against the critical position according to which 'Marlowe never wrote a less Christian play', the article proposes that Thomas Kyd's The Spanish Tragedy is firmly set within Christian parameters and is a profound and moving dramatization of the struggle involved in seeking yet failing to recognize a benvolent deity in a situation of intense grief.
