Blood smear, complete blood count with red blood cell indices, platelet count and mean platelet volume, and histograms depicting the RBC hemoglobin concentration and cell volume evaluated in an Advia instrument from the patient before (upper panel) and >8 months after treatment with reduced plant sterol and cholesterol diet and ezetimibe (lower panel). Although occasional stomatocytes were observed in the post-treatment blood smear, they were significantly reduced in number compared to the pre-treatment sample. Post-treatment MCV was decreased and the absolute reticulocyte count was normalized. The platelet count increased and the mean platelet volume decreased, although not to normal values.
