Monocyte-derived human macrophages were incubated in three conditions: M-CSF; LPS and condition media from MiaPaCa2 (PDA-CM). We positioned the activated macrophages in the M1/M2 spectrum (classically activated/alternatively activated), by testing the expression of CD86 and CD163, typical M1 and M2 markers, respectively. (a) Incubation with LPS resulted in pure M1 (CD86-positive) population. (b) Incubation with M-CSF produced M2 (CD163-positive) population. (c) Incubation with PDA-CM resulted in mixed M1/M2 population.
