HIV DNA positively correlates with HLA-DR+CD8+ T lymphocytes over 8-year suppressive antiretroviral therapy

Abstract: We studied the relationship between HIV DNA and CD8 + T-cell activation in a retrospective cohort. We observed that the expression level of HLA-DR remained high in CD8 + T-cells and was positively correlated with total HIV DNA [odds ratio (OR) = 1.86, P = 0.028) during 8 years of suppressive antiretroviral therapy (ART). This study illustrated the long-term interplay between HIV DNA reservoir and host inflammatory state despite viral suppression.
