Separation of thermal and nonlinear optical effects in normalized transmittance results of colloidal nanoparticles in z-scan
Year: 2023
Type: dissertation
Abstract: This project is a step to understanding the optical response of nanoscale gold particles suspended in water to exposure by intense laser irradiation. It theoretically models the response of electrons, the heating and phase changes of the gold nanoparticles and surrounding medium to allow for the accurate prediction of light-nanoparticle interactions. The thesis investigates the nonlinear optical response through the z-scan experiment and successfully predicts experimental data over a wide range of nanoparticle sizes and laser intensities.
