Potential Limitations for Assessing Adverse Posttraumatic Neuropsychiatric Sequelae With Wrist-Wearable Device and Self-report Survey—Reply
Year: 2023
Type: article
Abstract: In Reply We are grateful to Liao and colleagues for their interest in our work.We examined cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between posttrauma self-reported pain, anxiety, and sleep quality and wearable data collected contemporaneously with self-report data. 1 Liao and colleagues raise several important questions related to this work.Liao and colleagues bring up the important question of whether participants were blind to their wearable data. This is important because seeing one's data can constitute an intervention, potentially changing behavior. In the Advancing Understanding of Recovery After Trauma (AURORA) study 2 from which these data were drawn, wearable data was collected using the Verily Study Watch, which displays time and date only.Participants received no other data from the watch. We apologize for not making this clearer in the article and appreciate the question.
