Abstract: firmed vancomycin resistant isolates were further genotyped by multiplex PCR using specific primers to detect vanA or vanB genes.Findings: Antibiotic resistance for E. faecium isolated from all samples showed ampicillin having the highest and increasing resistance trend (87.5 to 94.8%), however decreasing for gentamicin (42.7 to 24.4 %) and vancomycin (15.6 to 3.1%).In E. faecalis , gentamicin had the highest resistance percentage although decreasing in trend (23.7 to 18.5%), but steadily increasing resistance in ampicillin (6.0 to 7.7%) and vancomycin (1.3 to 2.2%).Among vancomycinresistant isolates, vanA gene was the most predominant in both E. faecium (99.8%) and E. faecalis (100%) isolates. Conclusion:The prevailing number of VRE carrying vanA demonstrates the utmost concern for hospital acquired infection.Close monitoring of these issues is needed to prevent any outbreaks and to improve patient management.
