Longer Breastfeeding Duration Is Associated With Decreased Risk of Hepatic Fibrosis Among Young Women With Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Year: 2023
Type: article
Abstract: Breastfeeding is widely recognized to exert various health benefits in infants and mothers (reviewed by Victora et al1). Mothers who have breastfed are protected from metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease, however, some of the protective effects may decrease after the age of 50 years.2,3 Breastfeeding also protects mothers and children from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).4,5 Whether breastfeeding protects women with NAFLD from disease progression and metabolic comorbidities and, if so, whether the protective effects depend on age, remain unknown.
