Abstract: Acquisition of polysemous words is one of the major difficulties inteaching Chinese as a foreign language. Because of the richness and theimportance of food culture in Chinese life, this paper chooses the verb "chi"as the research object to explore its different meanings (including basicmeaning and extended meaning) and its corresponding verbs in Arabic andits teaching methods to Arab students. First of all, I introduced the basicmeaning of the verb "chi" according to the interpretation of "Modern ChineseDictionary (7th Edition)", then analyzed the different extended meanings ofthe verb "chi" based on the conceptual metaphor theory, At the same time,used the corpus of Beijing Language and Culture University to provideexamples, and translated these example sentences into Arabic to illustrate what are the Arabic corresponding verbs for different meanings of the verb"chi", and finally proposed some teaching methods which is suitable fordifferent meanings. The purpose of this study is to make Arab studentsdeeply understand the different meanings of the verb "chi", as well as toprovide assistance to them to be able to use the verb "chi" correctly.
