Abstract: In this work the mechanisms of the development of atrial fibrillation (AF) were clarified and the function of the left atrium was assessed after the restoration of sinus rhythm in patients with AF against the background of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) without a significant decrease in the systolic function of the left ventricle. 52 patients with AMI were examined who had been urgently delivered by an ambulance team to the Samarkand Regional Branch of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Cardiology, to the department of ACS and cardiac intensive care. Depending on the localisation of the infarction zone, all the patients were divided into 2 groups. The 1st included 29 patients with AMI of inferior localisation, the 2nd — 23 patients with anterior AMI. AF proceeds less favourably in AMI of anterior localisation. In this category of patients the attacks proceed with disturbances of haemodynamics, and after the restoration of sinus rhythm the mechanical function of the left atrium is persistently impaired in the majority, which is connected with an increased risk of thromboembolic complications.
