Abstract: A&Q 77Katrina and Rita-is one such recent example.Less an indicator of food's capacity to facilitate social progress, Viet-Cajun exemplifies the messiness around cultural citizenship in a global marketplace where neoliberal multiculturalism obscures the material realities of environmental racism and ecological precarity through postdisaster recovery narratives that celebrate culinary fusion in the name of progressive politics.Together, these examples showcase the need to reconceptualize Asian food, much like other cultural objects and productions in Global Asias, as unbounded, complex, and, relatedly, messy.
