Abstract: Efforts to develop more effective treatments for psychiatric illnesses will require innovative approaches that address changes in brain networks underlying cognition, emotion and motivation, cardinal symptoms that cut across all psychiatric disorders. This effort will include new molecular entities that modulate neuronal excitability, synapses, cellular stress and inflammation. Other opportunities will come from repurposing existing treatments. This overview highlights current and future goals in treatment development in the Taylor Family Institute for Innovative Psychiatric Research at Washington University.
