Mana - Bringing Accessible HPC to Hawai’i
Year: 2023
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: One of the core functions of most academic cyberinfrastructure teams is to provide, maintain and secure central research computer resources. In this work, the Information Technology Services (ITS) Cyberinfrastructure (ITS-CI) team at the University of Hawai’i (UH) describes the evolution of Mana, a high performance computing cluster (HPC) from an initial vendor proprietary system to one using completely open source software. We describe the experience and lessons learned in the management of a centralized university computing cluster over the course of the past 8 years.
