Abstract: People who have had a stroke are confronted with multiple medications and complex treatment regimens, both associated with low adherence. As a result of barriers at the health system, health-care professional, and patient levels, most people around the world who have had a stroke or heart attack do not take any medications to prevent a recurrent event.1 Unfortunately, this prevention gap has not narrowed in the past decade. Fixed-dose combination therapy was proposed as a strategy to improve secondary prevention treatment rates in 2001.
