Abstract: Since 1970, Iran has experienced dramatic environmental, political, and socioeconomic changes and events.All these events have impacted and shaped the urbanized landscape in Iran during the past 50 years.This article provides an overview of those factors influencing the sociospatial patterns during this half-century of urbanization and highlights the current challenges that confront Iran's cities.
