“Collective gaslighting” and emotional workplace abuse in feminist academic spaces

Abstract: In this conversation piece, I address the issue of emotional workplace abuse (EWA) in feminist academic contexts, including the difficulties in identifying and naming such abuse. In doing so, I draw from my own research on EWA (Penttinen et al. 2019), and present two case studies. I argue for victim-centered approach (Sanderson 2021) which begins by taking seriously the effects of psychological violence and emotional abuse, and criticizes processes involving mediation between the perpetrator and the target of abuse.
