Deciphering the Interneuron Diversity in the Human Caudate Nucleus and Putamen Using Snrna-seq.

Abstract: Striatal interneurons are a group of local projecting neurons that play a key role in integrating and shaping the information projected from the striatum to the other interconnected nuclei of the basal ganglia. These subcortical nuclei are involved both in motor and cognitive functions being the striatum the main input area. Deciphering the striatal interneuron diversity is key to understanding the circuit and to untangle complex diseases related to this brain structure. We performed single-nucleus RNA-sequencing (snRNA-seq) of post-mortem human caudate nucleus (CN) and putamen (Pu) samples, elucidating the diversity and abundance of interneuron populations and their transcriptional structure in the human dorsal striatum presenting a new taxonomy.
