Unveiling the Role of Ict in Social Science Research: an Examination of Ict Applications in the Saudi Arabian and Jordanian Context

Year: 2023
Type: article
Abstract: The pervasive use of information and communication technologies has influenced research in all disciplines, including the social sciences. This study examines the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in social science research in Saudi Arabia and Jordan. This study examined the advantages, disadvantages, technical skill/training requirements, and ethical issues associated with the use of ICT. Many participants used ICT on a regular basis, with statistical software being the most prevalent application. A qualitative study demonstrated how ICT has revolutionized research by facilitating improved data collection, more sophisticated statistical analysis, and scientific collaboration. However, intermittent internet access and power disruptions were also cited as obstacles to maximizing the use of ICT. The study emphasized the need for technical skill development and training programs for researchers to fully realize the benefits of information and communication technology. Data privacy and confidentiality are crucial when conducting research using ICT technologies. The findings contribute to the corpus of knowledge by highlighting the regional contexts of Saudi Arabia and Jordan and proposing strategies to increase the use of ICT in social science research. To leverage the role of ICT in promoting social scientific research in these contexts and beyond, this study advocates for additional research and action to address the highlighted issues.
