The travelled landscape of Benjamin Harrison and the imagined eolithic world of the Kentish Weald
Year: 2023
Type: article
Abstract: This paper seeks to show the relationship between the travelled landscape of the late nineteenth century Kentish Weald, the survey and collecting expeditions of Benjamin Harrison and his associates, and the imagined early Palaeolithic and ‘Eolithic’ life-ways that these investigators sought to uncover. We show how fieldwork shaped thinking and practice, and how walking served to organize the bodily practices of knowledge production.
