Abstract: Social media are the natural habitat of digital natives, who choose them over conventional media to access entertainment and information. In the context of growing digitisation of journalism, the TikTok channel ac2ality has become one of the most popular sources of news for Generation Z users by connecting with them through a new narrative. This article analyses the success of the ac2ality news account using a mixed quantitative and qualitative methodological approach that combines numerical measurements, statistical analysis and semi-structured interviews. The results highlight the importance of visual content in the consumption of news by (mostly female) Gen Z users, who value short, dynamic, minimalist, colloquial narratives, and the channel’s focus on quality self-produced content.
