Attachment resilience in practice: The essential role of family keyworkers

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The science of resilience has been growing in recent years, creating space for theories and propositions that make it more feasible to achieve new conceptual and methodological applications (Masten, 2011;Rutter, 2012;Walsh, 2021).The article "The family keyworker as a critical element for attachment resilience in the face of adversity" (Ber astegui & Pitillas, 2024) presents an invaluable contribution. The novelty of proposing a model for the role of the family keyworker as a crucial link capable of promoting resilience through their work in the care system and their essential part in chains of security is the great differentiator of the paper. The multisystemic theory, adopted as a theoretical lens by Ber astegui and Pitillas (2024), is highly suitable for understanding this phenomenon. The complex way in which resilience is conceived as an ecological and systemic phenomenon is well-suited to emphasize that resilience should not focus solely on the individual level but also on creating favorable environments and support systems that enable people to deal with adversity effectively.Recognizing and strengthening resources at multiple levels, including individual, family, community, and cultural factors, emphasize the interconnection between systems and the need for integrated approaches to promoting well-being in different life contexts (Oliveira & Morais, 2019;Ungar, 2008Ungar, , 2021;;Walsh, 2021).As a clinical psychologist working in community social psychology alongside implementers of social policies in Brazil, I believe this text can establish connections with different realities.Just as every masterful paper can benefit from dialogue with other cultures, I propose to draw parallels between its concepts and their applicability in other settings, especially in the rich and diverse Brazilian reality. To provide a brief context, Brazil is the fifth-largest country in the world in terms of territorial expanse, covering approximately 8.5 million square kilometers. This South American country is the sixth most populous nation globally, with a population exceeding 219 million, characterized by its ethnic and cultural diversity. However, the country also faces significant challenges, such as social inequality, environmental issues, and infrastructure problems. In such a rich and complex landscape, proactive models that expand and enhance care provision to the population are much needed.
