O País Feito Por Eles: Propaganda E Memória Da Ditadura Militar Em “o Brasil” (2014), De Jaime Lauriano
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This article sets out to reflect on the images of the official advertising of the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985), using as its object of analysis O Brasil (Jaime Lauriano, 2014), a work made up of a collage of historical journalistic, sound and audiovisual archives. Focusing mainly on the films, official television advertising pieces that exalt joy, patriotism and nationalism, we will try to investigate the discursive strategies of these images and the jingles that accompany them. We will also try to think about the power of these advertisements in a society in which television was a novelty at the time. Finally, we will present some reflections on the rapprochement between the craft of the artist and the craft of the historian, as well as on the dispute over the memory of the last Brazilian military dictatorship in a contemporary context in which right-wing political extremism is a social phenomenon based, among other principles, on the desire for military intervention.
