Cone-Beam Reconstruction for Circular Scanning with Bilateral Truncation Based on the VFB Method

Abstract: We describe a new procedure, based on the virtual fan-beam (VFB) method, to perform volume-of-interest (VOI) reconstruction from cone-beam data acquired with a circular trajectory and bilateral transverse truncation of the projections. Our simulations with the Forbild thorax phantom suggest that this novel method gives, in a VOI, results quite similar to those obtained by the Feldkamp, Davis, Kress algorithm with non-truncated data.
