P530: Point-of-care genetic testing with paired E-consult: An effective alternative service delivery model for patients with breast cancer
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Recommendations for hereditary cancer assessment to inform cancer treatment and surveillance continue to expand. It is well established, however, that there is a lack of genetics providers to reach the number of patients for whom genetic testing is recommended. As such, there is growing interest in alternative service delivery models. E-consult is a mechanism that enables asynchronous communication between providers and offers an approach for expansion of specialty genetics consultation. Recognizing that up to a third of all patients with breast cancer may meet hereditary testing criteria, while only 5-10% of those tested are expected to have a positive result, we piloted E-consults as a scalable approach.
